Digital competence and media literacy of Chinese students in the learning of Spanish: case study of a new profile of students

Currently, the classrooms in Spain have observed the arrival of Chinese students under 35 years of age with remarkable digital and media competence. This has encouraged teachers to arrange new digital tools associated to 2.0 Web, so that this learner becomes actively involved in their own learning process. It is for this reason that this investigation attempts to find out the perception of media competence (MC) in this student community, which facilitates the development of their communicative competence. Data collection was carried out using the dimensions and indicators of media competence proposed by previous investigations. The quantitative and qualitative investigations confirm the importance of MC competence. In addition, the videos produced and the dialogue with the students allowed for improvement in their linguistic command and in their ability to learn to learn. This investigation is a contribution to the definition of a new profile of Chinese learners in the context of Spanish learning.
