Abstract

This article presents a proposal for the recognition and promotion of some of the cultural landscapes in Chile. The aim is to highlight the value of Chile's material and immaterial landscape and heritage assets, fostering an appreciation and understanding of the country's culture and identity, which are integral to the collective memory of Chilean society. The methodology involved identifying, characterizing, assessing, and evaluating these places, their meanings, and the productive and aesthetic conditions of the territories. These cultural landscapes are envisioned as long-term projects that contribute to the formalization of new heritages and identities, local development, historical memory, and economic opportunities. They can serve as central axes for instruments and plans that generate opportunities for social, cultural, and landscape development, integrating humans with the cultures and landscapes, in this case, of areas such as Cape Horn, the Central Valley, and the nitrate settlements.
