This article examines the process of selection and reproduction of the Chilean leftist political elite during the dictatorship. Methodologically, the article uses in-depth interviews based on biographical trajectories. More generally speaking, it aspires to understand how the reproduction dynamics of the elite would go on to configure a transitional political culture that would be characterized by the scarce vertical integration of actors coming from civil society and the tendency towards the horizontal reproduction among its own members through co-optation and the institutionalization of formal and informal agreements within its own groups by the decision of the most infl uential selectors.
